Lutz Family Farm
Nestled in South Berwick, you'll find the Lutz FAmily Farm and market.The Lutz family grow 200 acres of fruit trees across a number of orchards including apples, peaches, pears. Their orchards include a mixture of young trees planted close together, and older trees in more generously spaced orchards. During your visit you'll hear the Lutz family explain the differences between older orchards with larger trees and big spacing verses the more recent methods of growing in high density, supported systems.
Sam Lutz says "We replace older orchards with new varieties on supported systems, to increase production and manage labour needs."
During your visit you'll find out about how land is prepared for planting trees, how they are planted, grown, and trellised.
The family will also have various equipment onsite to help you get a sense of what's invovled in planting, growing and harvesting tree frutis.
While you're there, you can also stop by thier new farm market to see thier range of fruits, and maybe pick some up to bring home for shool lunches or baking!
