O'Brien Farm
Our Event is titled "Then & Now", a two day event (September 14 & 15) in partnership with another organization, Colony of Avalon. The event will take place on our property (O'Brien Farm), with Colony of Avalon showcasing older farming ways on September 14 and O'Brien Farm Foundation showcasing more modern farming ways on September 15. The event is still in the planning stage, but we have many tentative plans that we hope will come to fruition, such as: various food-making activities (bread, jam, cider...), farmers market, craft-making activities, harvest dinner, etc.The O’Brien Farm Foundation is a registered charitable non-profit organization responsible for the preservation & growth of the historic O’Brien Farm. It is an active, working farm where people learn & practice sustainable food production, such as the New Found Farmers agriculture incubation program. Primarily a vegetable & flower farm, but also goats, chickens & bees. The Farm also tells the story of Irish settlement in St. John’s through the O’Brien family, who arrived in the early 1800’s.
